In the heart of 1970s America, two young drifters, simply known as "The Driver" and "The Mechanic," roam the country in a muscle car brimming with energy and a thirst for adventure. With no fixed destination and the engine always running, these friends, who seem to live on the fringes of society, embark on an improvised race that leads them to face an unexpected rival: a sophisticated driver of a Pontiac GTO, who is not only an expert behind the wheel but also a great conversationalist.
Throughout their journey across empty roads and desolate landscapes, the group encounters other characters crossing their paths, including a young hitchhiker who adds a dose of complexity to the trio's dynamic. What appears to be a pure competition morphs into a melancholic meditation on life, solitude, and the passage of time.
As engines roar and stakes rise, the protagonists fight not only to prove who is the fastest but also to find their place in a world speeding forward, leaving pieces of their identity behind. Through visually hypnotic scenes and a contemplative pace, the film explores the search for meaning on the road, leading us to question whether the true destination lies in the goals achieved or the experiences lived along the way.
