In the turbulent Russia of the early 20th century, a young widowed mother faces a harsh reality. Unable to find work, she becomes trapped in a social system that marginalizes and condemns her. To save herself and her child, she decides to seek help in the city, where a dark offer promises her quick money but at a high cost. It is then that she encounters a mysterious man carrying a yellow passport, a symbol of freedom and an opportunity to escape her heartbreaking situation.

As she delves into a world filled with dangers, among cabarets and circles of influence, the protagonist faces a moral dilemma that could jeopardize everything she has tried to protect. The film intertwines themes of sacrifice, desperation, and the struggle for dignity in the midst of an oppressive environment. What begins as a quest for survival soon transforms into a journey of self-discovery, where the young woman is forced to confront her own beliefs about love, freedom, and the value of life.

As the plot unfolds, not only is a raw portrait of society at that time presented, but it also explores the complexities of human relationships in a world seemingly determined to crush the most vulnerable. The story culminates in a moment of choice, leaving the audience wondering how far they would go to protect those they love.
