In this hilarious French comedy, we follow the life of Pierre Brochant, a successful Parisian editor who feels on top of the world. Every Wednesday, he and his friends host a dinner where they invite people they consider "idiots," just for the pleasure of laughing at them. Pierre is excited about his upcoming dinner after discovering a supposed genius in the form of François Pignon, a man obsessed with making cardboard models of monuments. With the intention of making François the "stupid guest" of the night, Pierre has no idea that his life is about to take an unexpected turn.
From the very first moment they cross paths, François's chatter is disastrously funny, and as the night progresses, the situation becomes increasingly chaotic. Pierre faces a series of mishaps and blunders that threaten to ruin his dinner and, consequently, his reputation. The plot thickens further when a misunderstanding causes François to become the epicenter of a mess involving Pierre's unfaithful wife and a tax inspector.
With a perfect balance between comedy and social critique, this film reminds us that sometimes those who seem the most foolish can teach us valuable lessons, while those who are the smartest often have the most to lose. A night that begins with laughter ends up challenging notions of friendship and truth in the most absurd situations.
