The story follows young Drew, an 8-year-old girl who finds herself caught in the tumultuous marital life of her parents, a pair of dreamers in the film industry. Ellen, an ambitious screenwriter, and Bob, an up-and-coming director, have struggled to balance their careers with raising Drew. As the tension between them grows, their relationship deteriorates, and Drew has to grapple with the reality that her parents are not the perfect team she had imagined.

From her childlike perspective, Drew narrates the ups and downs of family life amidst successes and failures. The film shifts between comedic and emotional moments through her innocent eyes as she observes her parents transition from a passionate couple to two people who can barely tolerate each other. The conclusion becomes complicated when Drew decides she must intervene, seeking a way to protect her family world, even though it has already become irreparable.

As the plot progresses, important themes such as love, divorce, and the struggle for personal dreams are explored, all wrapped in a package of humor and melancholy. The characters are confronted with the harsh reality of their choices, and Drew becomes the voice of a new generation that must learn that relationships can be complicated and often painful.
