In the cold and isolated vastness of nature in Colorado, an aspiring writer takes a job as the caretaker of a luxurious but lonely hotel during the winter season. Jack Torrance moves there with his wife, Wendy, and their young son, Danny, who possesses a special gift known as "the shining," which allows him to see terrifying visions of the hotel's past. As winter progresses and snow blankets the outside world, the atmosphere of the hotel becomes increasingly oppressive, and the environment begins to affect Jack's psyche as he grapples with his own inner demons and a history of alcoholism and violence.
The spirits of the hotel start to manifest, feeding on Jack's insecurities and revealing how dark his soul can become. Trapped in a vortex of madness, he begins to exhibit unsettling and violent behavior as his relationship with his family deteriorates. Wendy tries to protect Danny from Jack's dangerous transformation, while the terrified boy struggles to keep himself safe from the visions he receives.
Tensions rise in a chilling family confrontation, where horror becomes something tangible and terrifying. As the hotelβs supernatural forces take hold of Jack, the space transforms into a labyrinth of madness and terror, pushing his family to the brink of their endurance and putting their lives in jeopardy. In the end, only one can emerge alive from this nightmare... or perhaps, they are all doomed to remain trapped forever.
