The Invention of Lying

  • Log in or register to post comments

In a world where lies do not exist, the inhabitants are brutally honest, leading to comical and disastrous situations. In this peculiar context lives Mark Bellison, a screenwriter whose life is not going well. Neither his job nor his love life is a walk in the park; his clumsiness and lack of success have made him quite a lonely and depressed guy. But everything changes when one day, in an unexpected twist, Mark decides to break the rules of the game and tells his first big lie.

The revelation of the lie causes a stir in his monotonous world and, in the blink of an eye, Mark becomes a venerated public figure. People flock around him, eager to hear his inventions and promises, which deviate from the cruel honesty of his surroundings. As he becomes an icon, his new skills bring him fame and the attention of Anna, the woman he has always been in love with.

However, as his life becomes more complicated and his relationship with Anna blossoms, Mark faces ethical and moral dilemmas about truth and lies. How far is he willing to go to maintain his new position and win the heart of the woman he loves? In the end, he will have to decide if honesty, despite its downsides, is truly the path he wants to follow in a world filled with deceit.
