Ellen's life is a cycle of academic success and a promising career in journalism, but everything crumbles when she receives the heartbreaking news that her mother, Kate, is seriously ill. With her mother fighting cancer, Ellen is pushed to return to her home in a small town in New York, where the reality of her childhood and the complexity of her family relationships hit her hard.

In this return, Ellen faces the complicated relationship she has always had with her mother, a strong and often domineering woman who also hides a vulnerable side. While caring for Kate, Ellen must deal with the pressure of being the "good daughter" and the expectations of her father, an elitist professor who has spent much of his life dismissing his wife's sacrifices. Through moments of laughter, tears, and deep revelations, old resentments and family secrets that have remained hidden come to light.

Ellen discovers within herself a strength she never knew she had, leading her to reevaluate her own life, her choices, and what love truly means. The film is an emotional journey that immerses us in the rawness and beauty of family relationships, sacrifice, and the search for truth. With illness as a backdrop, the plot confronts us with the inevitability of loss and the importance of finding meaning in human connections.
