A young man named Juan Preciado arrives in the ghost town of Comala, guided by the promise his mother made to him on her deathbed: to find his father, a man who has lived in her stories as an almost mythical being. Once in the desolate town, Juan discovers that reality is very different from what he expected. Comala is inhabited by wandering souls, whispers of a past filled with pain and disillusionment, where the living can hardly distinguish themselves from the dead.

As he delves into this atmosphere of sadness and melancholy, he encounters several souls who share their stories and their connections to Pedro Páramo, a ruthless and powerful landowner who ruled the town with an iron fist. Through these revelations, Juan begins to understand the true nature of his father and the legacy of suffering he left in his wake. The voices of Comala intertwine in a narrative that blends fantasy and harsh reality, unraveling the story of a man who, despite his ambitions, is trapped by his own solitude and cruelty.

The film explores themes of love, loss, and the search for identity in an environment where death and life are almost interchangeable. In the end, Juan is not only searching for his father, but he also confronts the echoes of his own existence in a world where the past never fades away.
