In the midst of the Cold War, a new advanced Soviet submarine, the nuclear-powered submarine, is launched into the sea on a secret mission that could change the course of the conflict. Commanded by the charismatic Captain Marko Ramius, this submarine becomes the center of attention when it is revealed that Ramius has his own plans: to defect and go to the United States. However, his intention to escape becomes complicated when his former superiors in the Red Navy detect the betrayal and launch a manhunt to reclaim their vessel.
On the other hand, in U.S. intelligence, analyst Jack Ryan, a former Marine turned spy, becomes aware of Ramius's flight.
