In late 19th century Japan, peace seems to finally reach the ex-samurai Kenshin Himura, who has hung up his sword to live a peaceful life and protect those he loves. However, his tranquility is interrupted when a new and formidable enemy appears on the scene: Makoto Shishio, a former samurai seeking to overthrow the Meiji government, who spares no resources to execute his plan. With his army of dishonored warriors, Shishio lays siege to Kyoto, soon plunging the city into chaos and destruction.
In this epicenter of conflict, Kenshin must confront his internal demons while trying to protect his loved ones, including his loyal companion Kaoru and the family he has built around himself. Old friends and foes also reappear in this conflict, such as Saito, the shrewd detective seeking justice, and the beloved band of warriors who once fought alongside him.
As the flames of war consume Kyoto, Kenshin is forced to unearth his old self, the legendary assassin known as "Battosai," to confront Shishio in a dangerous battle that will not only determine the future of the nation but also the fate of his own soul. The struggle for redemption and the quest for a new purpose intertwine in an epic tale filled with action, drama, and stunning visual style.
