In a post-war Italy, three experienced con artists, led by the charismatic and cunning Augusto, strive to survive in a desolate and impoverished world. After pulling off a couple of small scams, they see the opportunity of a lifetime: to score a big haul by deceiving a group of naive peasants who believe them to be good people. Alongside their accomplices—a fake priest and an inexperienced young man—they devise an elaborate plan to execute the heist.
However, as events unfold, tension rises and old wounds resurface. Augusto grapples with his conscience, reflecting on the past and the choices that led him to become a con artist. The portrait of his life is filled with nostalgic moments, where dreams are affected by an oppressive reality. As they near their target, the dynamics among the group members begin to fray, revealing the insecurities and fears that have been hidden.
The situation becomes even more complicated when the authorities begin to close in, and the bonds between the men strain under pressure. A story of friendship, betrayal, and redemption—where not everything is as it seems—leads us to question: is it really worth risking everything for a heist that could change it all? In this grim world, every decision carries unpredictable consequences that could end in tragedy or an unexpected second chance.
