Set in the vibrant 1960s in Baltimore, this story follows Tracy Turnblad, a teenager with big dreams of being part of the cast of the popular television show "The Corny Collins Show." With her unmistakable style and passion for dance, Tracy challenges the social norms of the time, where racism and discrimination are a daily occurrence. Everything changes when she finally gets a chance to participate in the show, becoming a sensation and catching the attention of her idol, the heartthrob Link Larkin.
As Tracy rises through the ranks of the entertainment world, she also fights for equality on the show, which excludes Black dancers. Her friendship with the talented Motormouth Maybelle and her desire to include everyone in the show push her to challenge the rigid racial structure of the program and, ultimately, of her society.
Featuring a colorful cast that includes her overprotective mother, Edna, and a group of eccentric characters, the film blends catchy music and vibrant choreography with a powerful message about acceptance and self-love. From hilarious moments to touching lessons about diversity, Tracy’s story is filled with heart and energy, making the audience get up from their seats to dance to the rhythm of the revolution. On this journey, Tracy reminds us that it’s never too late to chase our dreams and change the world around us.
