Woody Allen immerses us in the frenetic world of Hollywood through the life of Val Waxman, a down-and-out film director struggling to regain his former glory. Once one of the industry's big stars, Val feels displaced in an environment that seems to have forgotten him. Desperate for an opportunity, he is presented with the chance to direct an ambitious movie that could revive his career. However, the situation becomes complicated when, after a series of unfortunate incidents and misunderstandings, Val falls into a state of anxiety that leads him to lose his sight.

Despite his blindness, and with the help of his girlfriend, Val decides to move forward with the project and prove that his talent has not disappeared. The production turns into a rollercoaster of hilarious and dramatic situations as he tries to navigate the egos and tensions typical of Hollywood. With unexpected twists and a touch of dark humor, Val confronts his own insecurity and the obstacles that arise along the way, from demanding producers to a challenging cast.

As the film within the film unfolds, Val begins to see what truly matters in his life and career, leading to a conclusion that, while typically Allen-esque, leaves a sense of reflection on success, identity, and love amidst the chaos of the film industry.
