In the 1980s in New York, the story follows Bobby Green, a young man living a carefree life as the owner of a nightclub. Bobby, played by Joaquin Phoenix, enjoys the nightlife and is surrounded by an atmosphere filled with music, parties, and glamour, while keeping a cautious distance from his family ties. His brother Joseph, a police officer, and his father, the police chief, have instilled in him values of responsibility and fighting crime, but Bobby prefers to avoid any connection to the law.
However, his life changes drastically when he becomes entangled in a conflict between his family and the city's criminal underworld. After a brutal attack on his brother and the rise in drug-related violence, Bobby is forced to reevaluate his life and loyalties.
